Mice & Rats Infest Houston Attics & Garages
Rats and mice are serious pests year ’round, yet our phones ring even more for help as the weather turns cold.
This is the time when the weather begins to change in the Houston area and rodents more actively invade buildings looking for a cozier place to spend the fall and winter months.
It’s no problem for these pests to slip indoors. Even grown mice can squeeze through holes only 3/8″ wide. If they can get their head in, they can get the rest of their body through. Most adult rats can squeeze through a gap the size of your thumb, and young rats can get in through even smaller openings.
One way these pests get indoors and pass between rooms are the gaps around utility pipes and wires. They can also easily slip through hidden spaces under many exterior doors.
Once indoors, they reproduce prolifically. One female mouse can mother up to 50 mice in just one year. A new born female mouse is ready to begin mothering her own at just 55 days old. Without control, the mice population in one year could explode to over 500 mice!
Mice and rats not only can carry a great many diseases themselves, they also carry ticks and other parasites that can transmit diseases to humans when they bite us.
They eat our foods and contaminate it, cause property damage with their gnawing and can start fires chewing on electrical wiring.And they’re a known source for allergens.
